The name Waha-ika translates to “mouth of the fish”, and the distinctive shape of the club reflects this meaning, resembling the lower jawbone of a whale. This piece features a carved human figure along the edge of the weapon, traditionally representing a guardian or venerated ancestor who would protect and guide the owner.
